According to the book written by Stan Jersey, Postal History of the United States & Japanese Military Forces in the Gilbert & Ellice Islands WWII, U.S. military forces were stationed on Christmas Island in Dec. 1941. Does anyone know if there was a coded address for these forces? I have an item sent by Sgt. Wood, Station "Y", c/o Adjutant General, Fort Shafter Hawaii in Jan. 1942 with a Hawaii postmark. I also have a copy of a cover with this same return address with an Army postmark from APO 915 (Christmas Island) dated Mar 12, 1942. Is there any information whether this was the undercover address for the US military forces? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
