Some years ago, I acquired a few stamps online from Postbeeld. These were marketed/sold as Roessler forgeries, although they have also been referred to as cinderellas or even advertising labels. These oversized stamps measured 42 x 29 mm and were perforated 11.25. Although they were similar to the black/ultra-marine 2/s stamp that portrays a sailing ship passing Ha'apai, issued by Tonga on 1 June 1897 (see Figure 1), the stamps appeared in many colours. I have them in green, light red, dark blue, light blue, yellow/brown, light green and clear green (see Figure 2). Some seem to be parcel post cancelled, others are unused. Figure 3 shows another of these stamps with what appears to be a California date canceller. Can anyone shed any light or add some detail to this mystery?
