Dear Members,

I have just joined although I have been aware of the circle for a few years.

I started my Easter Island collection during the start of UK lockdown having managed to purchase a copy of Steve Pendleton and David Maddock's exceptional book on Collecting Easter Island.

My collection has taken me all over the world (virtually) much to the amusement of my post lady delivering envelopes from foreign lands.

Many stamps were available relatively easily in 2020/2021 bar about 3 which I struggled to find for awhile.

I feel I have around 90% plus of what I would aim to collect but am seeking some of the flight and ship covers now. Also the illustrated covers with bird men and moai etc on.

I did find some stamps not in the catalogue (earlier ones) which I have given to John Ray.

I do have some duplicates of stamps and the more expensive items such as the medical expedition card. Happy to pay (within pocket money limits!!!) for items or swop/pay as applicable/desired.

I managed to get a copy of Captain Bensons original "own story" book what a read.

I visited Easter Island in 2010 with Jo Anne Van Tilberg as the lead scholar. A trip I had promised myself after seeing Thor Heyerdahl, probably on a black and white TV many decades ago. An odd thing that I did not know until I read Van Tilbergs book on Katherine Routledge
"Among Stone Giants: The Life of Katherine Routledge and Her Remarkable Expedition to Easter Island" that she stayed in a house on the river Hamble (next to the Jolly Sailor Public House, which I had passed many hundreds of times on my canoe training runs up and down the River Hamble in Hampshire.

PS: Off topic slightly: I also collect canoe/kayak stamps including canadian/indian canoes, dugouts, outrigger and sailing canoes, olympic canoes and kayaks, native and war canoes, reed boats and eskimo kayaks, tin can canoe mail/stamps and the kon Tiki expedition and associated boats and canoes e.g. reed boats.

Ramblings/musings over.

Best wishes

Susan Templeton
