Where would I find history of Norfolk Island Local Post?

Hi Andy,
Local mail is collected from private boxes or handed over the counter at the post office, since there is no delivery to houses or businesses. Up until 14th February 1966 local mail was 1d and this became 1c after decimalisation. This was raised to 5c on 16th July 1980 and later to 10c .

In 1995 due to 5c stamps costing more than 5c to produce Norfolk Island post decided to arrange for 5c stamps to be produced on Norfolk Island. Two stamp designs Languaria Patersonii and Red Hibiscus were issed in blocks of 9 in booklet form. The booklet were issued on 1st September 1995, subsequently there have have been other booklets.

A special local post 'Postage Paid' cancellation was introduced on 3rd August 1987 for bulk postage to island addresses for 20 items. They were charged 5c per item and a receipt was issued.

Phil Collas and Richard Breckon's book 'Norfolk Island A Postal and Philatelic History 1788-1969' has further information on local post.

Trying to find locally used covers with all the different 5c stamps that were available at the different times is very difficult.

Trust this is of some help.
